Probably something wrong with the timing of the thumbnail track, but cant tell without looking at the manifest. If you can share your content I might be able to have a look. The reference client contains some sample streams for which the thumbnails work fine: https://reference.dashif.org/dash.js/nightly/samples/dash-if-reference-player/index.html |

We have a dash vod stream with thumbnails. Both video and thumbnails track are in segmentTimeline format. During playback on dash-if reference player, thumbnails and video are out of sync for initial 3-4 minutes i.e. thumbnails are visible before actual video during playback. I checked thumbnail tile image and it seems to be correct w.r.t. to actual video, but in Dash-IF reference player, thumbnail comes before actual content during playback initially. Although, they become in sync at later stage during playback.
With midroll ad insertion in the manifest,
It was observed that thumbnails after midroll ad were observed only after we scrub to the point of midroll ad.
By looking at network logs, it was confirmed that DASH-IF reference player didn't download thumbnail of playback point after midroll ad unless playback reaches midroll point.
Same observation was observed by using midroll ad which had its own thumbnails as well.
Is this behaviour because PresentationTimeOffset of image stream/ thumbnail does not lie at boundary segment?
Size of each thumbnail tile image is 5x6, sample timeline is as follows :

Timeline after splitting of period :
