an XSLT script is available from https://github.com/kb-dk/MerMEId/blob/master/trunk/mermeid/transforms/mei/utils/MerMEId_MEI_3_to_4.xsl ; this might be incorporated into the current repo with some additional documentation in the Wiki.

An important notice to add is that the transformation is rather MerMEId-specific and only transforms metadata, not musical notation.
