Plug-in Settings

This contains all the plug-in presets I use in Logic Pro.

Note that some presets are for external plug-ins, which will need downloading.

Plug-in settings are stored as .pst files.

Using Presets

A preset is a copy of all the parameters (excluding Sidechain) of a plug-in.

Downloading Presets

Download the entire folder containing presets.

For example, if you were interested in the Channel EQ presets, download the entire folder, and copy

Saving a Plug-in Preset

To save a plug-in preset with a custom name:

  1. Open the plug-in.

  2. Click the plug-in name at the top-left of the plug-in window.

    This will open a menu.

  3. Click the Save As option.

This will open a window in Finder, allowing you to name the preset.

Note

If you have enabled showing file extensions in macOS Finder, the plug-in name prompt will automatically contain the file extension .pst, but will not be selected.

If the name of the plug-in ends with .pst, that part will be ignored.

Tip

Plug-in presets can be nested.

They will show up in the hierachy in the plug-in insertion window.

For example, if you save a plug-in preset (e.g. named "Snazzy") inside a folder (e.g. named "Vibrant") nested inside of the plug-in presets folder, the hierachy will be reproduced in the plug-in selection menu.

You can then access the plug-in by opening the plug-in preset menu (by clicking on the plug-in preset name in the top-left corner of the plug-in window), and selecting Snazzy > Vibrant.

Important

If you name your preset #default, with the preset directly inside the plug-in presets folder, the preset will act as the Default Preset.

Note

  1. Any files not ending in .pst will be ignored.

  2. Furthermore, all empty folders will also be ignored.

  3. If there are no user presets, then all the "App" (built-in) presets will show up at the top-level.

Once a user preset has been defined, all the user's presets will now appear at the top level instead.

All the App Presets will then appear inside a folder underneath the User Presets labelled App Presets.

Default Preset

The plug-in is inserted with the default preset.

The default preset can be set, modified, or deleted.

Be default, the default preset is the Factory Default.

Defining a Default Preset

You can define custom default presets using two methods:

Option A: Save as Default

  1. Open the plug-in.

  2. Click the plug-in name at the top-left of the plug-in window.

    This will open a menu.

  3. Click the Save as Default option to save as the default preset.

Note: If a User Default is already defined, there will be a pop-up menu warning that the User Default already exists.

Click the blue button to continue (or press Enter ⏎).

Option B: Manual Naming

  1. Open the plug-in.

  2. Click the plug-in name at the top-left of the plug-in window.

    This will open a menu.

  3. Click the Save As option.

    Name the preset #default.

(This is used internally to identify the default preset).

Loading the Default Preset

Either:

  • Insert the plug-in. The plug-in will be automatically initialised with the Default Preset.

Or:

  • Open the plug-in. Click the plug-in preset name. This will open a drop-down menu. Click the Recall Default option.

When the default preset is loaded, the plug-in name will either be:

Tip

This method is can be used to re-obtain the Factory Default preset after the User Default preset is defined.

See Obtaining the Factory Default Preset.

Deleting the Default Preset

  1. Load the default preset.
  2. Click the plug-in preset name. This will open a drop-down menu showing a list of presets.
  3. Click Delete.

User Default

The "User Default" preset is automatically set on plug-in insertion.

When active, the preset name will show up as User Default.

Factory Default

The Factory Default preset is labelled Default Preset.pst.

Note

The Factory Default is not included, but has been added manually.

Obtaining the Factory Default Preset

This is useful if you want to define your own User Default preset, but don't want to lose the Factory Default.

  • If you haven't yet defined a User Default setting, then the plug-in is automatically populated with the Factory Default preset.

In this case, the plug-in will be labelled Default Preset.

This happens even if the user has defined other presets.

  • Else:
