Certain proposals, for example, research grants, won't necessarily have deliverables associated with them. More specifically, the result of the proposal can't be cleanly divided up into milestones.
Although we already support full and immediate payout of funds upon proposal acceptance, this isn't clearly communicated on the milestones view.
Adding a toggle to select between the current "advanced" view and a "simple" view with a full immediate payout would simplify the milestones view for users who are pursuing proposals more similar to a research grant.
Upfront payments (not conditioned on milestones) is not just for open-ended research. It may also be suitable if (say) the proposer has large expenses they can't prepay, and probably some other scenarios.
Similarly, it's not about "advanced" vs. "simple"; a proposal may be simple but can have clear milestones and allow for payment upon completion, or vice-versa...
I would simply present it factually as "prepaid" vs. "milestone-based", and provide an indication (maybe in the guidance?) that milestone-based grants are more likely to be funded.
