Version Information

  • vyper Version (output of vyper --version): 0.4.0+commit.e9db8d9f
  • OS: osx
  • Python Version (output of python --version): 3.11.4

What's your issue about?

The compiler panics when compiling convert(empty(Bytes[X]))

POC

@external
def foo() -> uint256:
    x: uint256 = convert(empty(Bytes[32]), uint256)
    return x
vyper.exceptions.CompilerPanic: tried to modify non-pointer type

  contract "foo:6", function "foo", line 6:17 
       5 def foo() -> uint256:
  ---> 6     x: uint256 = convert(empty(Bytes[32]), uint256)
  ------------------------^
       7     return x
