I would probably say it without requiring knowledge about version control. nifty-gui/nifty-gui#474 (comment). This is linked to the project readme. I guess one could word it something like "as of 2021 the project is not developed anymore / discontinued" etc. Since it is officially stated (void is the original author). Commit frequency (on master branch) is also not a perfect meter.

Maybe at some point we could also refer to some of its forks that are still maintained.

But yeah, this is not a demand to change the expression, just a thought. What do you and others think?

I was having trouble knowing the best way to word it. I'm sure there are many people for whom Nifty works just fine. I, personally, don't have any faith in anything that isn't being actively maintained - even if only for security reasons - which is an issue I deal with constantly in my regular job. But either way, people should be aware that Nifty has this issue so that they can make informed choices - and especially new developers coming to jME for the first time.

Yes, I would agree that "does not have an active maintainer" would be better than how recently it was committed to (a simple library that was perfect from the beginning may also not have active commits). I'd certainly agree its fair to say that Nifty doesn't have an active maintainer and letting people know that is helpful.

[I always think a bunch of old issues no one has ever replied to (or only "me too" replies) is a much better judge of if you can trust a library, nifty certainly fails that metric]
